In this workshop you will learn the process and personnel involved in planning a film. Students will learn where ideas for films come from, the process, legal issues, the key tasks of producer, director, line producer, and writer, as well as relevant terms and essential topics. The importance of representation will be discussed including lawyers, agents and managers. Learners will understand the difference in purchasing and optioning screenplays and literary material, and deal points in legal contracts. Basic process and principles of copyright will be explained. The role and importance of entertainment unions will be discussed. This course will compare the process for Studios versus Indie producers; participants will learn the system of film development from different perspectives, as well as the prevalence of DIY Filmmaking.
